Transitioning to Grad school

I grew up in Lancaster Pennsylvania, and attended Millersville University for my undergraduate studies. The biology department there was small, but full of dedicated faculty that provided a lot of one on one guidance to undergraduate researchers. However, with it being a small university, I had little exposure to graduate level research, applying to grants, and the resources available at large research institutions.

When I first started graduate school, I felt overwhelmed by how different the research environment was at a larger research institution. One of the biggest things that helped in the beginning was having older students to get advice from and talk through some of the unknowns I was navigating.

As a fifth year in the Cellular and Molecular Biology program, I've had a lot of exposure to many of the challenges of grad school. I joined bridge so I can be a sounding board and support system to newer graduate students as they adjust to graduate school.
